What is the annual quota of Bereavement Leave days for an employee?
An employee can avail up to 3 days of bereavement leave annually.
Can an employee apply for leave beyond the Annual Quota?
We understand that this is a time of grief for you and your family. Losing a loved one or a friend is very painful and it takes time to come to terms with that fact. However, we regretfully cannot extend the Bereavement Leave to more than 3 days. You can continue to avail of unpaid leaves, however, with due approval from your Manager.
Can an employee avail this Leave any time during the year?
Yes, there are no restrictions as to when you can avail Bereavement Leave. Irrespective of when you join, you are entitled to the same.
Can I take a half-day leave?
Yes, you can take a half-day leave among your Bereavement Leaves.
How early does an employee have to apply for this leave?
We understand that employees will be distressed at such a time. However, we urge all employees to apply for Bereavement Leave the very same day.
Can employees apply for backdated Bereavement leaves?
In situations where it is impossible for employees to apply on the same day, they can request for a backdated Bereavement Leave. However, this application needs to be sent within 15 days of availing the same.
Can an employee in notice period apply for Bereavement Leave?
Yes, employees serving their notice periods can also avail of Bereavement Leave. However, their notice period will correspondingly increase as per the number of leaves availed.
Can a Manager override leave restrictions and apply for leave?
Yes, Managers can apply for Bereavement Leave by overriding leave restrictions.
If a holiday is adjoining a Bereavement leave, is it considered a leave?
No, holidays are not considered as a part of your Bereavement leave.
If a weekly off is adjoining a Bereavement leave, is it considered a leave?
No, weekly offs will not be considered as a part of the Bereavement Leave.
Can employees club a Sandwich Policy across different leaves?
First things first. A Sandwich Policy is one wherein you can apply for a leave Monday-Friday and resume your duties on the following Monday, and yet, the number of leaves is only considered as Monday-Friday. Ordinarily in this scenario, Saturday and Sunday are also considered as leaves. However, with the Sandwich Policy you will not be debited for the weekly offs.

Does this leave request require an approval?
Yes, an employee will need approval from his/her Manager to avail Bereavement Leave.
What happens to the leave balances at the end of the year?
All Bereavement Leave balances will reset at the end of the year. Unlike the Earned Leaves, these will not be carried over to the next year.
