Appraisals

What are Performance Appraisals?

A performance appraisal is the formal evaluation of an employee’s work performance over a defined period. It assesses goal achievement, competencies, behavioural indicators and overall contribution to the organisation. Appraisals serve as the basis for development planning, career progression, and compensation-related decisions, ensuring that performance is recognised and rewarded fairly.

Appraisal Cycle

WisdmLabs follows a structured annual appraisal cycle, supported by mid-year reviews and ongoing check-ins throughout the year.
The appraisal cycle includes:

  • Goal setting at the start of the cycle
  • Mid-year review to assess progress and realign goals
  • Annual performance review at the end of the cycle

Eligibility for Appraisal

All confirmed employees are eligible for the annual performance appraisal and the appraisal % will depend on the time they’ve spent after confirmation

For example employees who have completed a shorter duration in the performance cycle (e.g., 2 months) will receive a proportionately lower percentage of the bonus compared to those who have completed a longer duration (e.g., 6 months).

What to Expect During the Appraisal Process?

During the appraisal call, employees complete a self-assessment reflecting on their performance against established KRAs and KPIs, after which managers conduct a structured evaluation based on demonstrated results, behaviours, and alignment with organisational expectations. A formal appraisal discussion is then held to review outcomes, share feedback, outline development priorities and set performance expectations for the upcoming period. The manager communicates the final appraisal rating in accordance with organisational guidelines, and the employee is required to formally acknowledge it; if the employee seeks clarification or does not agree with the rating, the matter may be escalated for additional review as outlined in the company’s appraisal process.

  • The manager shares the appraisal figure based on the evaluated performance and organisational guidelines.
  • The employee is expected to review and formally acknowledge/accept the appraisal rating. If the employee seeks clarification or disagrees with the assessment, it may be taken up for further discussion or review as per the company’s appraisal process.
